Please note: the 2009 Winter CSA is SOLD OUT. Thank you so much for your support! We’ll open registration for the 2010 Summer CSA (June – October) in January. Check back here regularly for more details.
Winter can be a hard time to find fresh local produce — most farmers markets have closed for the season, and many farmers are (quite wisely) catching their breath before launching headlong into a season of equipment repairs, infrastructure work, accounting, crop planning, seed orders, and all that other stuff we don’t have much time for during the growing season.
We’ll be busy with those things as well, of course, but first: the Frog Bottom Farm 2009 Winter CSA! We’re offering 115 shares, and registration is now open. Read on to learn how it all works. Or click here to go right to a printable registration form.
The Winter CSA is a 7-week mini-season that begins immediately after the regular Summer CSA season ends. It will include vegetables like lettuce, scallions, broccoli, cabbage, mei qing choi (a smaller bok choy), root vegetables, winter squash, and cooking greens (collards, kale, turnip greens, mustard greens).
You’ll receive your share on Wednesdays every week from November 11 to December 23, and you’ll receive one double-sized share the week of your choosing. Details about how to let us know which week you’d like that double share will come later.
We’re offering full shares and half shares. Just like in the Summer CSA, we aim to provide enough vegetables in the full share every week to feed a family of four, or two vegetable enthusiasts. A half share is half as much food. The Winter CSA full share costs $200, and the Winter CSA half share costs $125.
All pick-ups will be on Wednedays from 4pm-7pm. Most of you know we’re expecting a baby in the middle of November — we’re very, very excited! This is also just about the time when our wonderful crew of workers will be leaving the farm. This means Ali will be handling almost all aspects of the Winter CSA — administration, picking, and delivery — solo. To make that manageable — and to give us time together as a new family this winter — we’re only offering one pick-up day for the Winter CSA. We’ll return to Wednesday and Saturday pick-ups next year during the regular Summer CSA season.
Pick-up locations will be as follows:
RICHMOND: NEAR WEST END – St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Avenue.
RICHMOND: CHURCH HILL – Central Montessori School, 323 North 20th Street.
RICHMOND: GINTER PARK – Ginter Park Presbyterian Church, 3601 Seminary Ave.
RICHMOND: MIDLOTHIAN – CSA member home, Sutters Mill Court. Contact us for exact directions.
LYNCHBURG: CSA member home, Mt. Olivet Church Road. Contact us for exact directions.
and AT THE FARM!
To register: print and fill out this registration form, and return it to us by mail, at market, or at your current CSA pick-up location. Call or email if you have any questions! We’ll put up information right here on the website when all shares have been sold.
